an epic mass transit journey

I had today off for Juneteenth. I took a little journey via bus and train to the other county that you can get to on the light rail. And I even had a destination!

But first: I bought a hoe and used it on the joints between the concrete pavers in front of the Devil Girl House. I could hear my father's ghost laughing at me. He died while doing yard work. So I definitely felt like I earned a treat. Besides, the weather was perfect today.

What was my destination? Lover's Lair in Everett, whose owners & operators are a couple who regularly come to latex functions. As far as I know, they're the only place in the area where you can buy latex off the rack. I ended up seeing three regular attendees of local latex events, and possibly one irregular.

So how's the latex? Hey, it's a better selection than Metro had back in the day, and it's probably as good as you're going to find anywhere that doesn't specialize in latex. Prices? In line with what I've seen online.

I must say, they had the best selection of restraints that I've seen locally, certainly, and possibly the best anywhere. There was also a solid selection of other toys, both BDSM and otherwise. There's also a well-furnished dungeon through a secret door (!) where they have regular play parties. They're making me grudgingly respect Everett.

Did I buy anything? Yes. I now have a second latex LBD. Hey, it's actually better in a couple of ways than my other one; I'm considering wearing it to Pride Eve.

Oh yeah, the trip itself. On the way there, I took the bus to the train, and rode the train to the northern end of the line. Thence to not one but two buses to get where I was going. Wait times weren't bad and the stations were clean, but damn, that is some of the most depressing scenery in the Puget Sound area: run-down car culture hell. I found myself cheering for the visually weird stuff, like the boarded-up single-family house oddly close to the highway surrounded by razor wire, or the giant US flag in front of a business that had been made to look frozen in mid-wave. I took the short way home: two buses, no train, right down the highway.

I can now say, once again, that I've at least been through every station on the 1 line. When they connect the 2 line I think I'll go to Redmond and get coffee or something just because I can. But seriously, three of the newest light rail stations, which I went through for the first time today, have no buildings near them that aren't residential. That's... not as it should be. I hope it changes over time. The good news is that it has elsewhere: lots of housing got built near older stations that were in big commercial areas already.

From the US Dept. of Irony: both at Lover's Lair and at the supermarket nearest home, both people who rang me up were Black. On Juneteenth. That's... not quite right.

a fit of FOMO

I somehow just found out this morning that there's to be a second Catwalk reunion this Friday. Ordinarily I'd be all over that like white on rice, but there are two three problems: a) I've already agreed to help Dancer move on Saturday morning, the irony here being that she was the one who told me about the Catwalk; b) my favorite vampire witch queen will not be in attendance; and c) there's a regular event, the women's Leather munch, at C.C. Attle's earlier in the evening that I wanted to check out.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: when I am Imperatrix Mundi, I will schedule all club nights and shows to my own satisfaction. All shall love me and despair show up and groove.

After making dinner for m'boy on Saturday night, I'm sure I can think of something to do. And there's Pride a week later. Aw to the yeah.

book: The Expanse series

This evening I finished The Expanse, all nine volumes of it. Is it lit'racha? Well, maybe. Is it solid, fairly hard sci-fi? Definitely. Is it readable? Oh em gee! It basically ate my brain for nearly three months. Action! Adventure! Aliens! Intrigue! Lingo! Dangerous women, some with serious mental health issues!

It feels weird to be back, sa sa?

Nun parties harder than expected with Tacoma Girl.

Tacoma Girl came to the Devil Girl House late yesterday afternoon. She basically hung out for five hours while we chatted, ate my very first (?!) homemade guacamole, and checked out my four new homemade devil girls high up on my living room walls. All my mead and non-dark beer are now just... gone. And then Tacoma Girl proposed going to the Wildrose.

You know I said yes to that. Tacoma Girl hadn't been to the 'Rose on a Saturday night, and she was vexed by the cheeziness of the music and the number of apparent het dudes walking around. As for the former, I've just accepted that the assertion that lesbians have no taste is all too often true. Terrific queer women DJs exist around here and I've met them*, but they never seem to end up at big, regular club nights.

As for the presence of dudes, I'm really reluctant to gatekeep those guys because I've been the target of that kind of thing myself. Trans women avoided the 'Rose entirely before its current ownership bought the place in 2000. The number of men in the joint didn't wreck the vibe for me, but obviously TG has a different take on things.

After the Wildrose I turned Tacoma Girl onto the joy that is Betsutenjin, the tiny ramen joint a block away. Good thing, too, because that was basically dinner and much needed electrolytes.

It's a minor miracle that I'm neither hung over nor low on sleep. I think I hydrated just enough.

*Trinitron comes to mind immediately. Miss Shelrawka is another. I liked Coral Slater, but I think she's moved out of the area.

nunly outings

I haven't been silent the last four days because I was in a funk or anything, even if that would be a reasonable supposition. No, I've been out & about.

Thursday: latex dinner. A one-liter beer & schnitzel on Capitol Hill. The organizers were worried that we wouldn't be able to get enough space without a rezzo, but if you get enough rubber-clad freaks together, anything is possible. Yes, eye candy, but also listening to a fellow techie talk about the stress of dealing with a layoff from a certain local tech giant. Oy. I feel you, bro. And if I had any sense I'd get ready.

Speaking of work, I've been caught between the Scylla of security and the Charybdis of customer satisfaction. But I'm not facing it alone, and because I'm a social butterfly I've been made aware of options that I didn't know I had. Excelsior?

My son passed along an invitation to Ex's birthday dinner just hours before I was going to buy groceries to cook dinner for him. Good timing, kiddo. So yesterday he drove me all the way to Chuck's Hop Shop in Seward Park, where apparently they do real food more or less, and talked to Ex & her Mr. Right Now*.

Ex asked me if I was making plans to bug out of the US. Not seriously, I told her. A couple of other things she said prompted me to ask about her anxiety meds. There are things I miss about my ex, but her anxiety disorder is not among them. I'm not proud to say that when I first noticed her being worried & afraid about things that didn't really make sense not long after we met, I snickered at it. I didn't know what it was until years later. Moral: if you're in a new relationship and something seems off, don't ignore it.

*She's been dating him for what, ten years now? Fifteen? I can't even remember. But she really did call him that once.

found: the right Thai place

Just a few blocks down the hill from the Devil Girl House are five (5) Thai restaurants, a majority of which have disappointed me. I finally got around to trying the fifth and farthest the other day: Kaosamai. They gave me a verbal warning about the spiciness. "Understood", I said, and then proceeded to make myself hiccup with four-star eats. I'll be back.

Nice place! They have a big deck, and it's right next to Nectar.

Saturday club hopping

I finally made it to the Modular monthly at Substation. Usually it's on a Sunday at 1700, but this time it was on a Saturday at 1900. It's exactly what the name suggests: a bunch of people pushing buttons and tweaking knobs on modular synthesizers. Yeah, you know that crowd was nerdy. And I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only trans lady there.

But did I like the choonz? Quite often, yeah! Honorable mention: local boy EZBOT, who reminded me by turns of Aphex Twin, drum & bass, and several others. I was a little ambivalent about club hopping to the Mercury after two of the eight (!) artists that they had lined up.

So why club hop to the Merc? Caturday, Pride edition, which I used as an excuse to wear my "I [Pride heart] [beaver graphic]" tank top. I was hoping to run into some of the trans girls from the other day. Instead, I saw a lady in a butterfly costume like the ones I saw in Sydney. In a fit of nostalgia, I went over to talk to her. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was Temptress.

Fun fact about me: like my mother, I have the world's worst poker face. I may have looked absolutely horrified at her, but only for a second. Had her vile boyfriend been with her, I wouldn't have even gone over there. I chatted about Sydney, maybe a bit nervously.

Despite being seriously caffeinated, I didn't make it to midnight. I did to a ton of bike riding and chores around the house on Saturday, so I don't feel like too much of a geezer. I have to get the Devil Girl House ready for Tacoma Girl on Saturday. (The joke here is that TG is probably the least judgy person I know.)
